Heron Fire Doors and GEDA Collaboration

Working hand in hand with GEDA Construction, Heron Fire Doors delivered the required vision from concept to creation, ensuring fire compliance was assured without compromising on design.

Collaboration and Challenges

Working closely with the GEDA team, Heron Fire Doors was reassured that they could produce a heritage-style product for the Seamus Heaney Centre. GEDA understood the manufacturing challenges while also meeting the required fire specifications. Heron Fire Doors was tasked with assisting in the refurbishment of a historic building—a shrine to a local man of world renown. Being one of the few fire door manufacturers to primary fire test its own door set products at a UKAS-approved test house, Heron Fire Doors removed the need to rely on cascading fire tests conducted by other companies.

Commitment to Quality

The company holds BM Trada Q-Mark certification for fire and security enhancement (PAS 24), demonstrating its commitment to quality and third-party UKAS auditing. Heron Fire Doors specializes in the manufacture of bespoke recessed panel doors and remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards.

Design and Manufacturing Innovation

Included in the project brief was a challenging glazed door, requiring Heron to develop bespoke glazing and recessed panel beads compliant with the finished product. Julian Knipe, General Manager at Heron Fire Doors, stated: "With our Project Manager Damian Hasson overseeing the project, there was nothing a bit of can-do attitude and out-of-the-box thinking couldn't overcome. To quote Heaney, 'If we can winter this one out, we can summer anywhere.'" Julian also expressed his appreciation for working alongside GEDA, emphasising the contractor’s high standards and pragmatic approach to design and build.

Final Thoughts

Damian Hasson, Project Manager at Heron Fire Doors, described the project as both exciting and challenging given the architectural design brief. Heron Fire Doors thrives on challenges, going above and beyond to satisfy customer requirements while adhering to industry fire door specifications.
